What an Evo X fender liner actually does

The molded splash shield inside each front wheel arch separates the tire from sensitive areas behind the fender. A secure liner helps control spray and prevents gravel from repeatedly striking wiring, fasteners and painted seams. How to inspect the wheel arch safely

Park on a level surface, apply the parking brake and let the car cool. Turn the steering wheel for an initial visual check with the vehicle on the ground. Use a bright lamp to trace the liner edge and every fastener location. Fresh contact usually leaves smooth, shiny plastic or dark tire transfer.

If the wheel must come off, use the factory lifting points and correctly rated stands; never work under a car supported only by a jack. Keep tools clear of the ABS wiring and brake hose. Compare the damaged side with the opposite wheel arch, while remembering that left- and right-hand liners are normally different shapes.

Fitment checks before ordering

Record the model year, the side required and whether the bumper, fender or undertray has been changed. Count missing clips and inspect each mounting tab. A new liner cannot sit correctly if the surrounding bumper guide or fender mounting point is bent. Wheel diameter alone is not enough: tire size, wheel width and offset all influence clearance.

Replacement planning that avoids repeat damage

Clean the wheel arch so each mounting hole is visible. Loosely position the replacement liner, confirm that its edges overlap adjacent panels in the intended order, and only then install the clips. Do not force an incorrect fastener into a damaged hole. Secure the bumper-to-liner junction and replace deformed hardware rather than relying on cable ties near the tire.

After installation, verify that nothing touches at full steering lock in both directions while the car is stationary.
